Inquiry Lists vs. Waitlists

Is there a difference between an Inquiry List and a Waitlist? Yes, there is! They are two different types of lists and in this article we’ll explain what each of them are and the role they play in the affordable housing process.

Inquiry List:

An Inquiry List is a list of individuals who have expressed interest in a community but are not yet able to apply, because the official application process has not opened. Joining the Inquiry List allows prospective residents to receive updates, important dates and instructions about when and how to apply. It does not guarantee housing or a place on a Waitlist, but it helps keep interested applicants informed and prepared for the next steps.

Waitlist:

A Waitlist is a list of applicants who have submitted a completed application and are eligible but cannot yet be offered an apartment because all available units are currently occupied. Applicants are placed on the list, by lottery (random selection process) or application date, depending if the community is new or existing. When a unit becomes available, the next applicant on the Waitlist is contacted to move forward in the leasing process. Being on the Waitlist does not guarantee immediate housing, but it ensures you are considered as apartments open up.
