The Social Services Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing resident services programs at affordable senior housing properties in compliance with state and regulatory requirements. This role focuses on supporting older adults by connecting residents to essential services, promoting independence, and enhancing overall quality of life.
The Social Services Coordinator will assess resident needs and provide direct support by identifying appropriate resources such as housing and utility assistance, food programs, healthcare access, transportation services, benefits enrollment, and other community-based supports. The Coordinator will guide residents through application processes and provide follow-up to ensure successful service connection.
This position also oversees the development and coordination of educational, social, and wellness-focused programs tailored to senior residents. The Social Services Coordinator collaborates with property management, external service providers, and internal staff to ensure programs are effectively delivered and accessible.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Conduct resident needs assessments and provide referrals and service coordination
- Develop and manage programming calendars and resident communications (e.g., newsletters)
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee programs, workshops, and community events for senior residents
- Establish and maintain partnerships with local service providers and community organizations
- Assist residents with accessing benefits and services, including application assistance and follow-up
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, documentation, and reporting requirements
- Maintain accurate and timely records of services, referrals, and program participation
- Monitor program effectiveness and adjust services based on resident needs and feedback
- Coordinate logistics for programs, including space, materials, and scheduling
- Address resident concerns and escalate issues as appropriate
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all residents
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Education, Licenses, and Experience
- High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field preferred
- Experience in social services, senior services, community outreach, or resident services preferred
- Knowledge of local community resources, particularly those serving older adults, is a plus
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
- Ability and willingness to travel to properties in Central and Southern New Jersey
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and ability to work effectively with senior populations
Schedule
- Part-time position supporting senior housing communities
- Flexible schedule based on candidate availability and property needs
- No evening hours required
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting, standing, walking, and working on a computer
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds as needed
- Ability to travel between multiple properties, including navigating stairs and varying weather conditions
