What is a lottery?

An affordable housing lottery is a fair and impartial process used when there are more qualified applicants than available apartments. All preliminary applications received by the stated deadline are entered into a random selection to determine the order in which applicants will be considered. Being selected in the lottery does not guarantee housing; it simply gives the applicant the opportunity to move forward in the eligibility review process, which includes income verification and other qualifying criteria. This process ensures equal opportunity for all applicants while maintaining compliance with affordable housing program requirements. Our goal is to make the selection process transparent, equitable, and accessible to everyone who applies.
